Good Boy KDrama First Impressions (2025): Park Bo-gum Leads a Gold Medal Squad of Rookie Cops

Olympic champions turned cops? Good Boy brings heart, humor, and hard-hitting action to JTBC’s lineup—with Park Bo-gum leading the charge in his quirkiest role yet.
Good Boy Kdrama First Impressions – Park Bo-gum Is Back and Punching in Color
JTBC’s Good Boy has officially taken over the slot left by Heavenly Ever After, and it’s hitting the ground swinging. Quite literally. This drama introduces us to a team of ex-Olympic medalists turned cops – an idea that sounds chaotic on paper but somehow lands with the perfect mix of absurdity, adrenaline, and emotional bite.
If you’ve just stepped off the emotional rollercoaster that was When Life Gives You Tangerines, the opening scene with Park Bo-gum might feel like a breath of comic relief. Sitting in the park, eating a sandwich, and getting pooped on by a pigeon, it’s the perfect welcome back to K-dramaland, and a sign that this time, Bo-gum is here to have fun.
“There was a time when we felt our hearts burn and scream as if they were ready to explode… But once the spotlights go out, the heroes are forgotten.” – Yoon Dong Ju
That’s the core of Good Boy: What happens after the glory fades?

Olympic Gold, Police Badges, and Media Puppets
The premise is bizarre but surprisingly heartfelt. These medalists, once national heroes, are now working low-level police jobs and trying to stay relevant. Their squad was created mostly for the Chief of Police’s PR stunts, not real investigations.
Kim So-hyun’s Ji Han-na is a sharp shooter and public darling, constantly being used for commercials and photo ops by her superior, who calls her by her first name and tries to coach her on shooting. But she’s no pawn. She’s calm, calculated, and unwilling to be anyone’s puppet.
“If I’m wrong, then prove it. Don’t take it out elsewhere like a fool.” – Ji Han-na

Park Bo-gum’s Yoon Dong-ju Is the Soul of the Show
Yoon Dong-ju, played by Bo-gum, is an Olympic boxing champ with a clouded past. Accused of doping (then cleared), he remains haunted by public perception and guilt over an injured friend, Gyeong-il, who fell into addiction. Dong-ju’s ex-coach is still lurking, offering dirty deals, but he stands firm in his principles.
He’s that rare mix: stoic and sincere, goofy and gritty. He eats like a horse, wears his “Justice” mouthguard with pride, and confesses his feelings to Ji Han-na with no hesitation.
“I think you’re easy to like.” – Yoon Dong-ju
Also: the paint-fight warehouse scene? Instantly iconic. A one-man beatdown against the “bunny gang” under blacklight, funny, thrilling, and slickly choreographed.

Crime, Comedy, and a Bigger Mystery Brewing
Just when you think this might be another offbeat action comedy, Good Boy begins pulling darker threads. A customs officer is found dead. Gyeong-il takes the fall for something he didn’t do. And everyone from the sketchy customs worker to the corrupt coach seems to be hiding something.
Add in Man-sik (the wrestler), high on mystery drugs and accidentally stabbed during a drugged-up side mission, and Dong-ju pushing him through traffic in a stolen trolley just to reach an ambulance Good Boy really knows how to juggle tone.
It’s not all slapstick and flying fists. Something more sinister is unfolding. And we’re here for it.

Final Verdict (So Far): Promising, Funny, and Unexpectedly Deep
Good Boy could’ve easily leaned on its gimmick. Instead, it gives us real stakes, charming characters, sharp dialogue, and slick fight scenes that earn their slow-motion edits.
“Nobody is born good. I’m just making an effort to be good so I don’t regret it later.” – Yoon Dong-ju
The emotional throughline, what happens to forgotten heroes is already landing hard. And with the mystery deepening, it feels like Good Boy is gearing up for a much bigger punch.
